Reviewing Versions in Cut Context Does not Work

While experimenting with the new creative review feature we noticed that reviewing versions in the context of the cut does not work, and/or does not follow the same behaviour of the Media App, Screening Room or RV. While I am unable to diagnose the exact issue, here are some problems we are experiencing:

  • The frame numbers seem to not be based on any fields in shotgrid related to the cut duration, cut timecode, cut version duration, sg_first_frame, sg_last_frame etc.
  • On everything but the pinned version I get this message: “This Version has no media for this frame of the Timeline Player still shows a (wrong) image, we are working on that!“. Despite the Cut, Cut Item, Shot and Version all being configured correctly with cut_in, cut_out, edit_in, edit_out, cut_duration, sg_first_frame, sg_last_frame, sg_frame_count etc etc. I know this because cuts work flawlessly in the Media App and in RV
  • Selecting the Scene and filtering by pipeline step displays other versions in the cut (They all get the above error, but they are there). However, selecting the individual Cut shows only the one pinned version
  • Right click UI to swap out Versions in the timeline is glitchy and flickers in and out
  • Generally buggy experience that does not match Shotgrid’s other cut implementation

Overall, creative review is a promising new review tool but I have found the “Context“ Feature of creative review to be very buggy and unusable. This feature needs to be implemented in such a way to mirror the cut functionality throughout the rest of Shotgrid.
