Shotgrid Create is slow to start

Hi everyone!

We are in the process of adopting SG Create for our review needs in our Studio.

However, we found that most of the time, it takes 15+ minutes just to load the app, which is completely unnaceptable for our use case.
We tested the tool on August last year, and it was nowhere near as bad.

Is anyone having similar issues? Any way to speed this up?

Hi @nathalia.borin,

Is it as slow to start if you set the SHOTGUN_CREATE_DISABLE_TOOLKIT_INTEGRATION environment variable to 1? It should shutdown the tk-desktop-2 integration.

Thanks for the quick response.

I tried this but it’s still loading 10min later

However, there were no more logs for the tk-desktop-2 engine (expected), but not even the other log file on AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ShotGrid Create\ShotGridCreate.log has anything being written on, so now I’m in the dark about what could be going on :sweat_smile:

Hi again,

ShotGrid Create is known to make a lot of requests at startup, and on some site configurations, it’s taking a long time to start. I would recommend you create a support ticket so we can investigate what’s wrong.

I see!

I found out that whenever the machine is rebooted, Shotgrid Create opens much faster, so I believe there might be some cache/temporary file being corrupted in the process, because if I close it and try to open it again, we get the issue with the slowness.

But thanks for the response, I’ll look into opening a support ticket as well.

Without rebooting, is it faster if you delete everything in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\ShotGrid Create and in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ShotGrid Create and start to relaunch it? Is your home folder mapped to a network location?

I’ve opened a support ticket for this! Any updates and I’ll post here as well.

I tried to delete what’s on the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\ShotGrid Create and in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ShotGrid Create folders but to no avail :frowning:

Edit: forgot to answer the second question: no, my home folder is local.

One more update here:

I started tracking files that are created/modified once SG Create starts, and it seems the program is actually crashing when it’s in that loading screen (at the very least, it always generates a .dmp on the format %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\CrashDumps\ShotgridCreate.exe.xxx.dmp)

I’ll forward the latest dump in the ticket, in case it might help.

An update here: I opened the ticket and the trouble we were having was because of the high number of projects. We archived a good 90% of our projects and the problem was solved :slight_smile:
