Shot reuses between multiple episodes

Hi team,

Working client-side on episodic.
What’s the best way to get one shot to show up on multiple shot pages? I don’t want to make copies, I don’t want to have to create a new shot code for different episodes, I want the same shot with all the same information and versions to exist in multiple episodes.
What do you think the best way to do that would be?

Thanks!

Hey Maria,

why do you want this?
A shot can logically only exist in one episode at a time.

If its a reuse you could use a Sub-Shot and edit teh detail pages to show all versions from the shot and the parent shot as well.

This would be useful for different scenarios and reasons. But the one we’re running into right now:

For example the same shot might play in different episodes but with different lengths. So let’s say we have the full length shot in one episode (frames 0-100) and then a flashback in a later episode (frames 50-100).
We want to have that information in hand and know what plays in which episode to inform editorial. and the DI, etc.

We also have the same establishing shot playing in multiple episodes. Same shot, but we want to have a space for that shot in multiple episodes.

What is a sub-shot?

This is exactly why Parent/Sub Shots exist.

Using that methodology you would also not break any tooling that has to keep track of the cut ranges for these shots etc.

Reuse shots may also get slight extra vfx added or removed (for example, rain present in the parent shot is not present in the sub shot).
This allows you to track this work as well.

So you’re shot identifier could stay the same and you may just need to add a letter or some other id to identify its a reuse.

i.e.

101_TST_0010
101_TST_0010A
101_TST_0010B
etc.

or
101_TST_0010R1
101_TST_0010R2
etc.
