Diferenciate between two Shots on diferent sequences on Publisher

Hi all!
There is a way to diferenciate between to Shots with the same name, but on diferent Sequences on the Desktop Publisher?
I can find it… :frowning:

Probably doesn’t help you much currently, but going forward you could get around this with a slightly more detailed naming convention. Something like 101_1010 for the first shot, instead of simply 0001.

Depending on your type of project, 101 could be the first scene in the first episode of a script, or just the first sequence of shots that go together in your project. Starting at 101 allows you to insert new sequences prior, chronologically, like 050 etc.

Then I like to start shot numbering within the sequence at 1010 and increment numbers by 10 for each cut in the edit, regardless of it being a vfx shot or not, so cut two is 1020, etc. This gives a name to all shots, so if a shot is promoted to a vfx shot later on, it already has a name in the sequence. The numbering also allows for plenty of space for inserting of new shots for late edit changes without clashing with existing shots or the shot order – again, you could add many shots before like 0510, or in between like 1010, 1015, 1020.

I agree with Arvid,

please always make sure your shotnames (and asset names for that matter) are unique.
It will save you lots of trouble later.

We do the same, but do note that having underscores in entity names may be problematic, if you rely on parsing file paths. Better use a dash instead.

I encountered this problem a few years ago. Aiming for simplicity, I ended up taking another route and allowing shots from different sequences to have the same name, further simplifying the naming convention. To avoid ambiguity in the publish window, I grouped each shot with its parent sequence.
In the image, you can see a publish window with 3 publishes, 1 for an asset and 2 for a shot (I’ve just realised that they are not properly grouped, but it’s working nevertheless)
Usually we don’t publish to two different sequences at once, but it’s just a matter building the group using the sequence + the shot name. I’m doing this right now! haha.

There was a logical error on my end. Now it’s fixed.
As you can see, it’s grouped by entity, and in the case of a shot, it’s grouped by sequence and shot names.
