Recently I see this change in publish UI from maya.
Whereas it should show something like this
Check your Shotgrid Maya log file (tk-maya.log) probably you are getting some error when the Publish app opens and its seting itself to the default Publish type (standalone) like when you open it from Shotgrid Desktop.
