Hiding disabled persons from showing up in autofill

We have a lot of former colleagues on disabled status, and they show up in the autofill suggestions. How can I disable them to show up? Ideally I would want only the people assigned to a project to show up in the suggestions. Is there another method of archiving accounts rather than just disabling them? Thanks for the help!

You can filter out entities with certain statusses from displaying in the auto-complete in Site Preferences.

You can also enable this function per user so each user can also add their own filter options if they wish, this would only apply to them.
