Is There an Official Abbreviation for Flow Production Tracking?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently come across Flow Production Tracking after it was rebranded. However, I’ve encountered multiple abbreviations for it and I’m a bit confused about which one is officially recognized.

  • An Autodesk employee referred to it as FPT.
  • An engineer I met at a recent DevCon called it Flow.
  • The development documentation mentions FPTR.

Could someone clarify which abbreviation is officially used for Flow Production Tracking? Any insights or official references would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Flow is the overall M&E product/infrastructure under which Flow Production Tracking (Formerly ShotGrid/ShotGun) and Flow Capture (formerly Moxion) are now bundled.

FPT → Flow Production Tracking (Formerly ShotGrid/ShotGun)
FPTR → Same?

It aims to create interoperability between these products and a way for productions and their 3rd party vendors to share data in a more effective and standardized way.

Hi @Sean !

I want to follow this thread to get a clear answer to this as well. To add to the confusion the abriviation inside of tk-core is PTR as you can see in this “rebranding” commit. An official statement would be nice on what to use.

PS: You can also see in the commit that “Shotgrid” and “Shotgrid Toolkit” were both replaced by “Flow Production Tracking”, which is also wildly confusing to me. But I guess that is another topic.

As you have indicated, there does not appear to be a consistently recognized abbreviation. I have even seen FlowPTR referring to Flow Production TRacking. I still refer to it as ShotGrid, but for coding and referencing, that’s probably not very helpful.

Hi all!

The official abbreviation of Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid/Shotgun) is FPTR

The documentation is right and the logo of the app is also right about it!

Have a great day!

This lost nuance between the Toolkit framework and the product is the one that hurts the most. I guess as with all things, historical context is key.

Being an Aussie I guess I can’t complain. Now excuse me while I go any eat some chips. (fries, crisps, hot chips, woodchips? who knows!)
