Creative Review - Frame numbers follow timecode instead of "sg_first_frame" field

Hi,

As we are starting to experiment with the new Creative Review app, we are noticing the frame range information seems to be pulled from the uploaded movie timecode rather than the Version “sg_first_frame” field, as it is the case with the current Screening Room Review App.

This is a big issue for us, as our uploaded movies timecodes follow the original footage timecode rather than the “VFX frame number”. This means:

  1. The frame number shown in the Create Review App is meaningless for artists.
  2. The “cut context” playback does not work (likely because it can’t deduce the proper frame range).
  3. The frame number shown in the Creative Review App is not consistent with the Screening Room Review App (And the standalone RV app when playing frames).

Is this the normal/desired behavior ? We would very much prefer to keep the “frame number” indicator follow the “sg_first_frame” field instead of being a straight conversion of the movie timecode. I believe this may be related to this other post : Time Code and Other Display Options .

Thanks for your time,

Gilles.

Hey dsagilles,

Thanks for posting. This indeed may be related to the posting you’re referring to. We’ll have a look at this and once we’ve got more info, we’ll reply on this post to keep you informed.

Cheers

In many VFX workflows, following the embedded timecode as the frame number is often preferred, since media is typically generated with timecode matching the frame number to meet most TV and film delivery specifications.

That said, there are also workflows where the opposite approach is required. Having the flexibility to choose — for example, on a per-project basis or via a version setting — would therefore be very useful.

Hi dsagilles,

This is intended behaviour. We are looking into playback in cut context and potentially adding more flexibility in the future if user demand is there. Hopefully that helps.

Cheers
