Client Review 2026

Do we know if any of the improvements to Creative Review will filter through to the Client Review experience. I really want to embrace this tool but it’s looking dated.

Hello Michael! At this time we do not have plans to add any of the features from Creative Review to the Client Review Site. However, we would like to continue improving Creative Review to support the workflows Client Review Site currently enables.

What are the key features from Client Review that would need in Creative Review? I assume the ability to share externally to client users which is something we’re looking into but other than that are there any others?

That’s a shame. It feels like it could be so much better but it remains rather rudimentary. It hasn’t changed much since 2019. I’m not sure it’s for me to point out what the issues are, I feel the team should look at Creative Review and the competition to see what’s missing and how it could be improved.

I agree, please look at the competion.
particulartly the playback and note taking features that frame.io and SyncSketch provide.

  • User Tagging in Notes
  • Timecode tagging in Notes (writing 00:00:00:00 in a note as a quick track position for the player)
  • 3D Review (USD Tech?)

Some other ones I’ve heard over the years:

  • Better history view for Clients, so they can see what version they have seen from the same entity and what notes they have given previously.
  • Better shared link handling, shareable links are personal to the user which currently makes the notes come from the user the link was generated for. This is sometimes prefferable, but sometimes you actually want to be able to share 1 link to many people and have the all comment (with their own names). So tying the auth to Google, Microsoft or similar services is helpfull for quick login.
  • Review portal instead of Multiple loose links and emails?
So client can login to the portal and see all the things they need to see in one go.

Adding to this, people shouldn’t have to write the timecode, rather they should be able to send a note and it be automagically tagged into a TC.

Annotations should also be able to be seen within the playback context and not just as an attached frame opened in a new modal, this has been requested countless of times over the years, but for animation directors, drawovers that cannot be played back in context are just not useful. Our directors have been forced to switch to doing all their drawovers off-pipe and it just adds an additional layer of complexity to the review process that prod has to bear with.

I agree however there are workflows where users want to write a story so even just adding the same detection as youtube comments have would help if someone wants to write a story with multiple timecodes.

However having them in linked to your comment is good as well obviously.

The other day I ran onto this app that comes with very fresh and thoughtful ideas on how collaboration should be, thought as a Frame io alternative, but with loads of potential on the commenting system space.

Looks cool, certainly usefull for Youtube style content production.

He’s going to have a battle on the name though…

No webservers were hurt here

Thanks everyone for taking the time to share your feedback! We hear you and the challenges being raised around client review and collaboration. These are areas we are actively spending time on and exploring some exciting improvements. More to come as things take shape, and we are looking forward to continuing the conversation with you all as we get closer to being able to share details. We really appreciate the passion and honesty here so please keep it coming as we continue development!

That’s encouraging to hear. I would add that we then need the same experience in RV to complete the transition to the Creative Review experience. Is that something on the horizon also?

That is also something we’re working towards. Our goal is to align the experiences in Creative Review and RV. You can see our steps towards this with the update we released today that better connects RV and Creative review in Live Review sessions.

I’m going to circle back onto this response of mine. I was just told by one of our artists that SG Create actually has the feature of playing the annotation in the version’s context already implemented, I didn’t even know!
Then it’ll be much easier to bring it into the Creative Review I suppose

Cheers!

I believe we have the option you are looking for as well in Creative Review! If you go to our documentation here it should be the “View annotations in the player” option when selecting the “…” menu on the note with the annotations you want to view in the player.

You can also do this in the flipbook modal which previews each annotations individually by selecting the “Open” option on the top right of the modal.

However, we only support this with annotations made in Creative Review at this time so it would not be backwards compatible with any annotations submitted to FPT from other tools.

Another limitation would be that we only load the annotations from individual notes into the version context at this time but we are looking into ways to support opening all annotations from all notes into the player timeline as well.

Let me know if this is the feature you are looking for and if there are any differences in how you would expect it to function!

Ideally it shouldn’t matter the origin of the annotation, if it’s frame-tagged it should be playing in-context. But thanks for the clarification, I didn’t know that this was already partly implemented!

Thanks!
