Does anyone have a template or advice for setting up a simple shotgrid project for classroom assignments?
Dear Zoya, Did you find anyone who developed a class assignment template for the classroom? I’m also interested in using Shotgrid to send the student’s work to a screening room RV. Thanks for any help.
I tried Assets for the 6 Projects for my class, with tasks/versions for uploading.
I have setup SG/Flow for a vfx class I was teaching. It’s not too difficult but you can make it as complex as you like.
For example I was teaching a matchmove class. The lectures and assignments were based on shots as a result. You could leverage both shots and assets or create a new entity (just enable tasks and versions on it).
In my case a shot was created per class and the relevant material was uploaded so they could be reviewed by the students during class (in RV). A demo task was made for myself or the TA to use.
If the class resulted in an assignment a task was created per student with expected deadline dates. I hid all of the pipeline steps and fields that weren’t relevant to the class in order to keep the project pages clean.
As students uploaded versions for review, I could add notes and annotations through screening room.
You also need to set the students permissions group so they don’t have write permissions to affect the shots and each others tasks, only their own.
Once you’re happy with your setup, you can use that project as a template for future classes so you don’t need to keep doing the same setup over and over. My preference was to do a project per class so new students aren’t exposed to all of the previous students work and notes and it allowed for refinement of the project/template without affecting the old classes.
Thats a super basic rundown of how I approached it, but you really just need to stick to the basic hierarchy structure of SG/FPTK and decide how many main entities are needed for the datasets you plan to use. You can simplify the hierarchy for a class setup as well. For my example, I didn’t need things like episodes or sequences and had it set to PROJECT>SHOT only.
Thank you for your insight. I will also reply when I’m setup and if works as I hope.
Were you able to review all of the student’s work in a single playlist or screening room for class review?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out, because we review in class all the student’s work.
Thank
Yup. Having a project per class makes that very easy. You can simply review the latest submissions, set a playlist so that you or students can have focused review sessions based on a specific assignment or class or whatever you like. Or you can create a version page in the project that filters to something specific and then just review the versions that enter that page.
All of these options are accessible through screening room once you have your project setup
