Hello!
Is there a way to make a custom widget in Shotgrid / Flow? My studio has a few dashboards that we’d like to add descriptions or how-tos to. Is it possible to have a blank text widget where you can add this info to at the top of a page? or any other method to show this type of into?
No - I don’t think the SG UI can be altered.
This may be a good feature request to SG, though. I had thought the Web Page widget could be used to show documentation pages, but it seems the restrictions on what can be displayed make it next to useless. (widget documentation says " Note: You cannot embed web pages which block iFrames. Furthermore, embedding a page with authentications in an iFrame may result in unexpected behavior since it is outside of our control.")
Alas…a simple feature that should exist ahaha. Thank you for the response!
I reached out to their helpdesk a short time ago, because I was also having issues with the Webpage Widget! This is the response I got. It is limited, but hopefully this helps you a bit. I am now able to link Google Docs / Sheets / etc to my SG pages:
- For utilizing the Web Page widget, there are only a few types of pages that are able to be included. Specifically, they require the ability to utilize iframing or embedding. Below are a few examples:
- Pages from the same Flow Production Tracking site. (Detailed here)
- Embeddable videos from Youtube or other similar services. (Youtube embed URLs can be found when selecting the “Embed” option when selecting the “Share” option on a youtube link. Google Drive embed URLs can be found following the instructions in this support thread.)
- Public, informational sites – for example, ShotGrid - Wikipedia
Wish I could add pictures here, but hopefully this is helpful for you!
You can also include Google Docs that have a share link.
