Creative Review - Onion Skin Request

Hi!

We had a feature request from one of our directors. They’ve been working with the annotation tool and would like an option that would ideally work as an onion skin to allow the annotator to move the drawing layer and manipulate it without messing with the underlying frame. For example- If we needed to draw a number of poses as reference for our artists to adjust animation, it would be great to be able to have layers that sit above the scene so that we could see the drawings while working on a separate frame. Similar to how Storyboard Pro handles things. It looks like Shotgrid Create had Ghost and Hold options that allowed for this, but the current ghost and hold options in Create Review don’t quite follow that same behavior and instead have the previous annotations disappear as soon as you start a new annotation. That’s the pie in the sky version, but even having a layer that sat above the scene so that if we did a drawover but needed to shift it over a little bit, we wouldn’t have to redraw it and could just slide it over to where we needed it or resize it, etc.

Thanks!

Hi Karina,

Thanks so much for posting this item. We’ve created an internal product ticket regarding this. Hopefully we’ll be able to address this in the near future.

Cheers

Hello Karina! We may have a fix for the inconsistent behavior with Create in our next release so once that is out let us know if you are still experiencing the same issues. This fix will be highlighted int he release notes.

As for the improvement, what are the most important features when it comes to manipulating annotations that have already been drawn? Also, would you want to be able to copy/paste annotations from submitted notes that were left previously, or would this be more important on annotations that are being worked on before submitting to FlowPT?

Sweet!

I think the most important feature for manipulating the annotation would be, the ability to move it around in the current frame. The annotator may decide halfway through making the annotation that they actually want it in a different place on the frame, and being able to move what’s currently been drawn to that location would be super helpful. Rather than the current workflow which is to erase what’s there and redraw it in the new desired location. And it would only be important for the annotations being done at that moment before being submitted!
