The future of review in Flow Production Tracking

We’re consolidating review in Flow Production Tracking into a single experience, and we want to give you plenty of notice about what that means for two apps you may be using today.

Review in Flow Production Tracking is where new capabilities are going. Over the coming months, Review will become the primary way to review media in Flow Production Tracking.

As part of that consolidation, two separate applications will reach end of life on January 29, 2027:

  • Flow Production Tracking Create, the desktop app.

  • Flow Production Tracking Review, the iPhone app.

On that date, both applications will be removed and be no longer available. Nothing changes about how you use them today, and you don’t need to take any action right now.

Review itself is unaffected by this change.

Why we’re making this change

Today, reviewing media in Flow Production Tracking can mean using any one of several different tools depending on whether you’re at your desk, in a session with your team, or away from the studio. That fragmentation creates inconsistency in what you can do, where your feedback lands, and how reliably it all works together.

Review brings those workflows into one connected, web-based experience: play back Versions and Playlists, annotate frames, leave notes that stay attached to your production data, compare Versions side by side, and run synchronized Live Review sessions with your team.

What this means if you use Flow Production Tracking Create

Playing back media, annotating, and leaving notes are all available in Review and that’s where we’d encourage you to start. If you prefer a desktop application, RV is the go-to solution.

Task-based work continues in Flow Production Tracking itself, through My Tasks and your project pages.

We want to be straightforward about what isn’t carrying forward. These Create capabilities won’t continue in their current form:

  • Task view and My Tasks as they exist inside Create. Task workflows move into Flow Production Tracking.

  • Screen recording. We don’t have a direct replacement for this in Review. Most teams use their conferencing tool’s recording feature or a local screen-recording tool instead.

If any of these are central to how your team works day to day, we’d like to hear about it. See below.

What this means if you use the Flow Production Tracking Review app for iPhone

Note: The Flow Production Tracking Review iPhone app is a separate application from Review in Flow Production Tracking, the web experience described above. The names are similar, but they’re different products. Only the iPhone app is reaching end of life.

Mobile review moves to Review in your device’s browser, rather than a separate app you install.

The iPhone app won’t continue after end of life, and the project-browsing view it provides isn’t part of the Review experience.

What happens between now and January 2027

Nothing changes immediately. Both apps keep working and stay supported through the transition.

We’ll follow up later this year with a more detailed announcement.

What happens after January 2027

These two applications will stop being supported. Users won’t be able to install them anymore. The previously installed versions of these applications will stop working on Jan 29, 2027 and no longer allow a connection to Flow Production Tracking. We highly recommend you stop using them in favor of Flow Production Tracking Review.

We’d like to hear from you

If you rely on Create or the Review iPhone app, let us know:

  • What you use it for, and how often.

  • Which workflows will be disrupted when it goes away.

  • Anything in Review that doesn’t yet cover what you do today.

Reply to this post, and we’ll work through it with you.

Get started with Review

I use the review app on the iphone pretty much daily and was hoping it would get a revamp not destroyed! Will the web version of review be compatable with iphones soon to replace it? or is the idea now not to offer a review service on phones at all?

Hey @ant_brownmoore,

The review app does work on mobile currently and we built it with mobile friendly UI in mind. That said if there is any functionality you are not seeing please let us know and we would be happy to address it.

Thanks,

Tommy

I don’t use the iPhone app daily, but when I’m out of the studio, especially on-set, I use it all the time. It was never a great app, but it at least felt mobile-friendly, designed to maximize very limited screen space on the phone. If it is going to be EOL’d, something useable needs to replace it.

Review itself isn’t terrible on the iPhone, but it still suffers from 2 big problems:

  1. FPT itself is barely useable on an iPhone. Without any responsive layout, text overlaps and is tiny. Navigating from project to project to find versions and playlists and getting them to play in review requires 20/40 vision and ninja-like precision with your tapping. The site as a whole is also very heavy to load, which isn’t a problem when you have wifi access, but often not useable when in the field and relying on cellular data. To be a real alternative to the iPhone app, Review would also need a place to launch playlists that is responsive and light and easy to navigate on the iPhone.

  2. I’ll have to check on other browsers (I use Firefox on my iPhone which I know isn’t preferred), but there is no way to get media to play fullscreen. The fullscreen button only toggle off the upper menu, not the timeline and does nothing to affect the browser UI, resulting in a smaller picture in landscape mode than in portrait and no way to view it full screen.

  3. Lastly, the Review UI still needs a lot of work before I would call it mobile-friendly. Toolbar tools are cut off in portrait mode. And the sidebar where you enter notes is tiny in landscape mode. Together it means having to constantly flip between portrait and landscape to mark up a frame and leave a note.

Thanks Tommy - is there a way to get to the review part of FPT without having to go through the main site (which is not iphone friendly). I usualy need to look at all versions relating to a project and can only see a way to get to review if my production team send me a playlist

Very much agree. Its a shame there wasnt attention put into refining the app with a little feedback from the comunity. I’m trying everything I can not to move over to Frame IO for reviews and anything that “review” can become to make it more mobile friendly the better

Yup, we are on a same tough spot with reviews but instead of Frame.io with Syncsketch, it’s an expensive addition on our budget, but the quality of life is considerable for everyone.

I hope this continues improving but so far it still feels that the Review app, while a welcome addition, is still on its early stages specially given how immobile it is when comparing to all the modularity SG has (and why it’s still relevant to use SG in the first place).

Hey @ant_brownmoore so the only way to do that is if you know your playlist id or version id in the URL, otherwise you still need to go through FPT. With that said we can absolutely look into this and providing a way to quickly access review.

I understand the concern on refining the experience and we take the feedback seriously so please keep it coming and we can make sure we get these requests addressed as quickly as we can. If there is certain functionality in Frame or SyncSketch that you wish to see we would love that feedback as well.
