RV Licenses: Am I licensed?

Over RV’s lifespan, there have been 4 different RV products with 5 different RV licenses. To determine what we are dealing with, we need to know the application you are looking to run. You can expand the arrows below for more details.

RV (on OSX is displayed as 'RV64')

is the interactive player. This is the most common RV product.

As long as you are logging in to a Shotgun site (version 7.2.0+) and are using RVSDI (version 6.0.0+) and licensing through your shotgun site then RVSDI should be licensed.

Otherwise you’ll need to purchase an RV license called rvsolo from tweak@autodesk.com.

RVSDI

is exactly the same as RV, but it also includes the ability to display frames to high end video devices through AJA or Blackmagic SDI cards.

As long as you are logging in to a Shotgun site (version 7.2.0+) and are using RVSDI (version 6.0.0+) and licensing through your shotgun site then RVSDI should be licensed.

As of version 7.3.0, all rvsolo licenses authorize RVSDI. If you need a license without a Shotgun site, you’ll need to purchase an rvsolo license to run RVSDI from tweak@autodesk.com

RVIO

is the command-line only movie/frames converter.

Unfortunately, command-line RVIO is not currently included in the Shotgun licensing. You will need a traditional license for RVIO. Please contact tweak@autodesk.com for quotes on licenses.

If you don’t need to have the full command-line functionality and only need to use RVIO through a custom package in RV, there’s a way to do it without purchasing an RVIO license. You can find details in this post.

If you wish to use RVIO on the command-line or in a render farm, you will need to obtain an rvio license from tweak@autodesk.com

RVX

is a deprecated product that is exactly the same as RV, but allows for GLSL node creation; this functionality is now rolled in to RV and RVSDI.

This license is no longer available for purchase.

If your maintenance has expired before the release of the version you are using, the license will not authenticate the product. You can find out the date of release of your version here. You can either contact tweak@autodesk.com to get a quote on renewing your support, which will grant you access to newer versions of RV, or you can try using an older version.

You can see what the contents of your license file means here.
